ACORN
Acorn 09 2013 300x199 Watercolors

We had a bumper crop last autumn so I gathered bags full.  Today, the squirrels can go through a couple dozen in a few hours.  Counted 8 squirrels in the black walnut tree the other day.  It is like their own jungle gym!!!

(untitled poem)

invite me for greens in the spring
i will come to you with a basket
of homemade onion bread
and a parsley sprig

let’s refresh our spirits in each other’s eyes
my smile, your voice
as we chew the cheese
at your round table

sunlight will lengthen about us
seeds underground wiggle their toes
the affection when we touch (i give – you give)
will make the day complete

and the circles continue to roll

(greeting card version)

invite me for greens in the spring
I will come to you with a basket of homemade bread
and a parsley sprig
how delicious and refreshing to be with my friend
and chew the cheese
at your round table

while the light inside and out, brightens

The IceMan’s Kiss

The IceMan’s Kiss

Cold Father Winter is drooling
cascades of icicles down
His broken heart too heavy
Everything is hanging from storm clouds
All the pointed tips
like frozen bullets fall
On hilltops, treetops, housetops
cover it all with a hard
                                   crystal glaze

He is thinking of his ex-lover
Slowly exhales a blizzard
A drift that sweeps as far
as any season can reach
Over the windows in upper Michigan
Takes the sun white-out at full noon
She must have been a looker
He falls back and let’s the night
                                   be blue

Kiss me with you ice lips, IceMan
Send me your best chill
Thicken my red pulse almost solid
Never mind she is basking somewhere warm
Take me down one more degree
with all your frigid passions
Touch me until I cry frosted tears
begging you for just a hint
                                   of spring

Thanksgiving Day – 2 of my poems for your reading pleasure+

Pumpkin Carved 300x225 Thanksgiving Day 2 of my poems for your reading pleasure+Thanksgiving Day

alas! is the word comes to mind
through many trials and triumphs I have
persevered and grown and still kept
a youthful glee that finds wonder and awe
in the big and small of this wonderful world
~ how thankful I am for that big doing

to this day are many ways, many lives
have crossed with mine and along with
hurrahs for this day and life itself I am
so-so thankful for these loving faces,
our shared laughter and inside jokes
and … pleasure and joy! YES+

the ones I pray for in the morning
the loved ones gone ahead to heaven
are character gems sketched deep in my memoir
I am thankful to and for those warm smiles,
also warm furry licks from several canine friends,
blue jays, hawks, trees and every berry that shares
my rip-roaring journey. hugz to all*

Thanksgiving Day

for a snowy-bright morning-light hour I sit and watch
friendly little sparrows twitch and bump and eat seed
at a feeder just outside the kitchen window

our turkey is cooking, there is no where to go
my mind is on holiday and delights in the simplicity
of small wings small lives that need only a few round kernels

I think about contentment and where it is found
today is a day of remembering what was and what is
both then and now give to me

How lovely all that I already know, the colors
and sounds and smells that surround me today
and the beloveds who call my name
